CIVIL CASES DISPUTE ABOUT A BOX A dispute concerning a kauri box and' its contents,was heard before Mr. W. G. lt'Uui'H, H.M , in. the Magistrates Courc yesterday, when Elizabeth Jiodda, a.married woman, sued L. ,W. Balkind and Co. for damages for alleged wrongful detention of the box. In the statement of claim (it was set out that on or about April 22, 1914, defendant wrongfully took and retained possession of tho box under, dispute,, along , with its contents. It was admitted that since the summons had been issued defend? ants had returned the box, along with certain_ goods, but it was alleged there was missing from tho box six knives and three forks. It was further alleged that some of the goods had been damaged. The following amounts were accordingly claimed:—£3 12s. 6d., goods damaged or destroyed; 18s. 9d., value of articles missing; £5 special damages; £5 general damages; and £5 damages to contents of the box. For tho defence it was contended that the good? were never detained. Mr. J. F. W. Dickson appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. J. J. M'Gratli for defendants.

After hearing" the eridence, the Magistrate gave indenicnt for plaintiff for £2/ with costs £2 17s. OTHER DISPUTES. A civil claim concerning the agis't- ■ ment, feeding, and care of a horse was heard before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.. when W. Talbut, farrier, /claimed £7 10s. in this connection from G. Ewart. .The defence denied that such ah arrangement existed. After hearing the evidence, tho Magistrate gave judgment for the amount claimed, along with" costs, £2 4s. Mr. V. R. Meredith appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. A. Dunn for defendant. ■ The purchase of a horse formed the basis of a civil claim heard before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., yesterday,' when Albert Henry, Bushton,. clerk, of Petone, proceeded against James E. C. Leckie, butcher, of Wellington, for £16 19s. 4d. ■ The statement of claim was to the effect that defendant sold a horse to plaintiff for £16, warranted sound, whereas the horse was not sound, and the plaintiff was put to expense in keepins; the horse to,the extent of 19s. 4d.

Mr. F. Holdsworth appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. J. J. M'Grath for defendant. After hearinc; the evidence, the Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for £16. A stay of execution was granted to enable defendant to bring.a coun-ter-claim for damages by way of depreciation in regard to the animal under dispute. ' DEFAULT DEBTORS' LIST. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. James M'Kee was ordered to pay A. and T. Biirt, Ltd., the sum of £6 Bs. 3d. by November 26, or undergo three days m gaol; H. White was ordered to pay Davis and Clater £6 13s. 6d. by November 26, or undergo six days in gaol. POLICE CASES. (Before-Mr'. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.) Oliver Rowland ft. Wiggs,' who was arrested by Detective Bailey on Wednesday on a charge of deserting his wife in New Soutk Wales, appeared to answer the charge. Chief Detective Broberg eexplained that Wiggs had been arrested on a provisional warrant, and in consequence a remand was asked for for a week until a-n officer arrived from Australia. On the application of Mr. P. W. Jackson, who appeared for accused, bail was allowed in £100. Albert Wm. Organ, was fined £1, or seven days, for indecency. Wm. Stevens was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, £2, or fourteen days, for indecency, and £3, or two months, for using obscene language.

Kate Brady, who was discovered in an empty house on Wednesday night, having spent some nights previously in the Basin Reserve, was charged with being an idle and disorderly person. The Magistrate decided that the best thing for her was three months in gaol.

For drunkenness. Bryda Shcehan was fined 10s., or 48 hours, and ,two first offenders were convicted and discharged.
