CIVIC AFFAIRS

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The. Wellington City Counoil.met last ■evening. There were present the Mayor ,(Mr. J. ¥.' Luke), Councillors It. I'letoher, J. E. Fitzgerald, A. H. Hindmarsh, E. A. Wright, M. F. Luckie, E. Tregear, L. M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, H. Buddie, J. Godber, G. Frost, and W. H. P., Barber.

The council agreed to the following conditions in order to obtain the neceßsary land to provide an access between the end of. Boseneath Terrace and Hataitai Eoad, as recommended by the City Engineer :—(1) That all expense in connection with the transfer of the heoessary land be borne by the Corporation. (2). That the Corporation be responsiblo for the lateral support of the new frontage. (3) That fencing posts be erected along tho new boundary to prevent risk of the batter being , : disturbed at a later date; and (4) that the pathway be maintained by the corporation. ■ ''■•;

The council decided: "That, provided the property owners.interested contribute the suin ( of £10, a lin. water supply pipe, be extended to View and Hnngerford Boads, at a cost of £40, also subjeot to the owners providing a small storage system of about 50 gallons to each building supplied, and paying, tho water rates for the remainder :of tho •year at once. ' , ■ < ■ ■

_ No action is to be taken in .connection with a request that the council should provide means of access by a right-of-way from Brougham Street to Claremorit A Grove.

The Tramways Board was authorised to purchase a quantity of electrical material from the Karon Borough Council, at a cost of £30.

A ljin. water '■'supply pife is to be extended to Haughton Bay Road,, provided the property owners contribute the sum of £50 towards the cost (estimated at £232 10s.). The estimated revenue is £20 per annum.
