The enemy is', equipped with elaborate machinery of destruction,, and by. fixing tho date of the war beforehand, possessed considerable advantage.' The British Army, under gallant and skilled leadership, haa proved to be not such a contemptible war-engine as some are disposed to think." Mr. Asquith (the Prime Minister), referring to Turkey, 6aid. that the Allies were compelled, after veiled menaces and impudent equivocations, to recognise an open enemy. He unhesitatingly predicted that Turkey would perish by the sword—the Turkish Empire had dug its own grave with its own hands.
