Roberts (only 'son of- Lord ■Roberts) out of danger, when mortally wbunded_ at Colenso,'<has been notified that he is to receive, the Victoria Cross for gallantry at Le Cateau, where he went back for-a wounded captain. Hβ placed the .captain on a horse arid galloped with him to -safety, though he himself was, wounded in both legs. ■ ■ During the earlier part of the Boer War, in Sir Redversßuller's operations ati Colenso, an attempt .to, cross the Tugela River failed, and twelve guns were lost.
