MAKARA COUNTY ELECTIONS
Polling in. oonnection with the election of several members to 'the Makara County Council took place yesterday. ■The final leturns were as-under:— ,
Porirua Riding—John H. Haggerty, 152: Alfred J. Taylor, 139 j S. Bryant, 136; John A. Pyle, 117; Frank T. Moore, 92; Thomas H. Eastwood, 70 : The'.first four were elected* •-■■■"■"■'' Makara J.sMonaghan,' 42; George Monk, 37; Frederick H. Hawkins, 34; Patrick Healy,3o. The first two were elected. • ■ ;' : .v Polling for the-election Of'-members of the Horokiwi and Wharoroa-Ridings to the Hutt County Council-also took place yesterday. ■ The ballofcboxes will hot be all- returned till to-day. Westpert, November 11. _ A good deal of interest was taken in the County, Harbour Board;-: and Hos'pital Board elections' to-day. In the County election, Messrs. G..-.M. Powell and H. Holder were returned-unoppos-ed; for the Karamea Ri3ing,"Mr. Bakef displaced Mr) Simpson' by two votes, •Mr. O'Rourke defeating Mr.' Hall by a similar margin. For Ngakawau and for Wareata South Mr. defeated Mr. M'Carthy by a : substantial margin. Inthe other ridings, the members of the old coiuicil were returned.
Messrs. D. J. Williams and' G. Griffiths were elected to the Harbour Board, and Messrs. D. J. Williams, G. M, Powell, R. F. Mullan, jun., and D, O'Brien to the' Hospital Board.
