Jams, who. stole a bundlo of 12. ■shirts,. valued at Sss., from outside the' premises of Te Axo House, pleading that lie was.very much in want of money, was fined £8 or seven days. ■ . ". •'Harry Yeoville Edmunds appeared on remand charged with two breaches of his prohibition order. He. was convicted and ordered'to pay medical expenses, . 16s, : ! For drunkenness, Patriok Mahoney was 'fined 405., or 6even days; James M'Loughlin, an old offender, wsb sent to gaol for.a month; Joseph Hemmings, fined 10s., or 48 hours; John James Ritson was remanded to November 16 on a charge of being .found helplessly drunk in Oiiiro Road. Five first offenders were dealt with. Edmund Carl Furness was charged on the information of Eliza Urwin with ' failing to provide for his wifej Blanche Louisa Furness. An order was made for £13 14s. arrears, to be paid at the ■rate ,of ss. per week ; ■£5 to be paid forthwith, and £1 2s: : 6d. per week for future maintenance :.£1 Is. costs were ' allowed complainant's, solicitor, Norah O'Neil was granted .a; summary separation against Andreiv; O'Neil on 'the grounds of persistent cruelty. Defendant was ordered to pay'£l per week maintenanco towards her support. YOUNG WOMAN CHARGED. A well-dressed young woman named Yalda Do Barra, who has been und'er police surveillance for some months past, was' yesterday .charged . in ,'the Magistrate's Court with "between April 27, and October 27, being the occupier, of premises in Vivian; Street, and knowingly permitted the premises, or a portion or them, to be used ! as a brothel.'' She was defended by Mr; P. W. Jackson, and pleaded nob guilty. \ The evidence of the police and of two civilians was that the place was ' a brothel. .One witness in particular denounced the place in very strong terms. . The Magistrate convicted accused and fined her £10; with 18s. witnesses' expenses, in default one, month's ' gaol. ■.Tvfenty-four hours was allowed in which to find the money. • , • '
