FINAL ASSAULT ON TSING-TAO
GERMANS GRIM DEFIANCE OVER TWO THOUSAND PRISONERS (Reo. November 9, 6 p.m.) ■> London, November 8. The German Governor of Tsing-tao was wounded during the bombardment and final assault. He ordered the garrison to fight to the last man. Three officers were summarily shot for suggesting capitulation.—"Times"- and Sydney "Sun" Services. - • (Reo. November 10, 0.16 a.m.) Toklo, November 8. The transfer of Tsing-tao is expected to take place on Tuesday. The prisoners number 2300. The Japanese casualties were 440.. In the final assault two British non-commissioned officers were wounded. The Mikado senti a message to Tsing-tao announcing his appreciation to the Japanese officers and men on their faithful discharge of their duty, also a message to the British forces, whose brilliant deeds, in- conjunction with the Japanese, bravely, achieved one objeot of the war. The Empress sent similar messages.
