BOWLS
PENNANT GAMES COMMENCED. Excellent bowling weather prevailed on. Saturday' afternoon; Bright sun/Hin6 prevailed, during the early part of the afternoon, with the lightest of southerly zephyrs, and thereafter the sky became overcast, but with little' movement in the air. It was a "pusher's day." Consequent upon the heavy rain which fell during the later part of the week, the greens were remarkably heavy, and a great deal of push was needed to get the bowls up to the jack. The raking shot was in great demand on most of the greens, where "fine" play was nullified by the heavy conditions. A month ago the greens were all verv i keen, but exactly the reverse condition was experienced on Saturday. Last week's drenching should mean a little more wear at the season's end.' The event of Saturday's play was the first round of the Pennants (holders, Petone' Club),'i which are being played for in two divisions. The results of Saturday's games were as follow:— DIVISION A.
