RICCARTON TRACK NOTES
GALLOPS AND TROTS. . ■from Our Special Correspondent.) Christchurch, November 4. >' Matters were very quiet at Riccarton this morning, most of the, horses being ■ restricted to from half to three-quarter-, pac« work. All' the work was done on the plough. ' ' 'Multiply (Oliver) covered half a mile in slßec. ' The effort was a pleasing one, and the Cup candidate moved freely throughout. feramorz and Steinheil Tan the last four of five furlongs in 551 sec., the imported horse having an advantage at the finish. Chortle (Oliver) brushed liomo smartly over the last four furlongs of & round on the tan. Kinaldo (Campbell) was again stepped out over a mile and a quarter, aiid, with the assistance of Varanian over the first half and Skirl over the last, covered the distance in 2mia. 161 sec. It was a very satisfactory gallop, the first half-mile being left benind in' 52Jsec., six furlongs in lniin. 20sec., and the last milo in Imm. 48 2-ssoc. .11 Osier, looking well, was responsible for .an easy half-milejin 52 l-ssec., and Pavlova finished well in front of Belasco at tlie end of a similar, distance run in 52sec. Philadelphia was doing his best to ,maintain a slight advantage over Banian in a spin o+er four furlongs, which occupied .52sec, ' Sea Pink (light-weight) encompassed a mile comfortably, running the last six furlongs in lmin. 20sec. A great number of others were Indulged in steady work,' including Martius, Chakwana, Findhorn, : 'Martigues, Gnome, Miraculous, Quarantine, First Flight, Snapdragon, llarsa, Chrysotis, Kilrain, Court Martial, Eed Book,' Flora Maodonald, Multiply, Mummer, Hymottius, Hyettus, Bimeter, Kilts, Downham, Guiding Way, Kaminohe, Daytime, Shaki, Bold Stroke, Mysteriach, Indigo, Autumnus, Bleriot, Idealism, Slogan, Kilmeny, Kooya, Nones, Reputation, Vocation,, Ruapani, Otatara, Gold Lock, La Eeina, Merry 800, Tete-a-tete, Postillion, Sir Moseley, Sweet: Corii, Rencontre, Camulus, Charmilla, and Corrie.' The "Looker-On" writes in the "News".: If Rinaldo starts in the New Zealand Cup; he will be ridden by F. E. Jonea. The hind fetlock, which he hit about- a .fortnight ago, has healed much quicker than was expected. This morning H. Hobb3 sent the' little horso a mile and a quarter, and he got to the end of it in good form. I should like his chance in? the Cup better if ho had been raced earlier in the season.. > ■ Fabrikqff is a very doubtful starter in 1 the Cup. His trainer does not consider: him seasoned enough to run out a strong two • lllliCS. ' Rongahero can have very, little chance ,of winning the Oup 6n any .track wfark he has.'dbne .at Riccarton. ' 'Kooya was very <excited tcKlay. The. galloping she has done to fit hei- for the Cup has evidently got. her on her toes. : .Uuapani 'looks jaded and tucked up. Ogier.was galloped again to-day. He looks in good order. labour Day is still wearing a bandage. She has' not been' galloped for a day or two.' Her trainer is evidently afraid to gallop her fast.La Reina strode out very prettily in doing the light task allotted hor this morning. She looks all the better for the mile and a half gallop yesterday. While running in' the paddock' yesterday Wisebird. kicked \ into a'fence, with the. result that she lamed herself behind. Autumnus's off fore-leg has filled rather . badly. ' Grown Pearl is doing good work, and is greatly fancied for the Stewards' Handicap , in some quarters. Personally I think he is at ais best tinder winterweight. ' ■ : ■_ .. . Bee moved very freely either at top or when going slow. She is a fine beginner, and is fancied for the Stewards on account of it.
Regarding some of*'the. trotters, tho same writer says:—Michael Galindo went out to trot a mile and a half at tometiling near his top, but did not go at all well. . He' had a ipacemaker alongside,' seemed very nervous, and gave lie driver a'lot of bother to control him. Hβ does not seem' able to negotiate; the corners properly, and broke badly once or.twice on.them. It took him 3min. 42sec. to ran the mile and a half, and he will have to move a long way.''truer if he is to win a race at the meeting. , ' ■ Thq Australian visitors have been, responsible for most of the sensational work until this morning, but to-day N. Price, with Bavenschild,, showed "that we have got a horse with some pace here. Hitched to a jogging cart, last year's Trotting Gup winner paced two miles in 4mm. 83 4-5 see., and did it in. an'immaculate manner. He got to the end of his first mile in a,shade over 2min. 205e0., and then, going on very strongly, romped' over the last mile in a trifle over 2min. 13sec., running the last quarter with the help of e pacemaker in 33sec. and a tick. It was a fine performance, and one that may make him start favourite for the , big money. ~...' . . Wood was! worked over two tniles. Not at any part it the journey was he asked to do his best. Hβ paced the last mile in 2min. 20sec., and did it well. He look? in. the best of health. . . Franzala was given long work at a good, useful pace. She. moved smoothly, and looks in j;he beet of 'health. . Emmeline was worked at something approaching a 20-gait. She did not nave the hopples on, and moved like a piece of machinery,-; but I'don't fancy her chance much for the Trotting Cup, and am afraid we havw seen the best of our one-time champion, ':■■■'■'.■'. j '. ) FIXTURES.
