CARGO IN A PRIZE
DIRECTIONS TO CONSIGNEES. •The steamer-Apolda, captured as a prize of war in Cape Town soon after tho outbreak of hostilities, had on board a good deal of.;cargo.for New Zealand. A number of y, commercial people having an interest in the steamer's cargo communicated with the At-torney-General (the Hon. A. .i.L. Herdman), and the Government made representations to the Union Government of South Africa inquiring whether facilities could be given to New Zealand consignees for the release of their goods. Yesterday the Government received the following information:—
"Replying to inquiry Attorney-General, Pretoria, wi.ll afford every' facility for release, on proof of ownership of New Zealand cargo of prize ships. Negotiations are proceeding with Imperial aud Royal Government with regard to forwarding such cargo.
