COUNTESS OF LIVERPOOL FUND
THE COMMITTEE'S WORK. A' meeting of the committee of the Countess or Liverpool Expeditionary Force Fund was held in the Town Hall yesterday, and was presided over by the Mayoress, Mrs. J. P. Luke. There were prosent: Mrs. \V. F. Massey, LaJy Stout, Lady Ward, Mrs. Townsend, Mrs: Bunny, Mrs. M. Myers, Mrs. Tripp, Mrs. Crump, Mrs. A.' Crawford, Miss H, Williams, Mrs. Preston, Dr. Plafcts-MiUs, and Miss Mestayer. Various business matters were dealt with, and a letter was read from Her Excellency the Countees of Liverpool thanking the committee for the letter of condolence which had been sent her. Letters were also read from the officers commanding the Expeditionary Forces,' thanking the committee for its efforts in equipping the troops, from office! s at the forts and from - reservists, %l acknowledging their indebtedness to the committee for comforts received. The report as read" by the hon. secretary, Mrs.',A. Crawford, stated that since the last meeting, which had been held on September 30, the Mayoress's committee of the Countess of Liverpool Fund had supplied an 'extra pair of-socks for every man in tlie Main Expeditionary Force, numbering 8900. A large amount of literature had also been supplied, and eighty jersies to supply the place of those which had been worn cut in Auckland. The committee is now-busy making up parcels for the' Maori Contingent. Each parcel contains 1 towel, 2 vests, 2 pants, 2 pairs ' socks, 1 "housowife," and except'for a few singlets • this work is practically completed. Complete kits for. the 500 men of the Wellington military area (reinforcements), consisting of 2 working shitrs, 2 vests, 2 pants, 3 pairs socks,-1 Balaclava, 1 jersey, 1 "housewife," are also bein'g arranged by the committee. The committee has also made the welfare of every'reservist in the Wellington military area its care. Every % one, numbering in all-55, haß been written to, and every case that has replied has been carefully -inquired about, and with the assistance of the Mayor's committee relief, has' been given where needed. . Clothing has been supplied in many instances, x and every effort made to alleviate any anxiety" caused, by the absence of the breadwinner. _ Many grateful letters have been received bjr reservists who at present do not require assistance, as well as from those who have been helped. ■ The equipment of the men at the, forts' lias been carried out, every' man receiving 1 jersey, 1 shirt, 1 pair socks, 1 towel,- a large number- of over-alls, Balaclavas," and "housewives" were also sent. "Letters of appreciation and thanks from officers at the forts were acknowledged. . An executive, consisting of Mrs. J. P Luke, Lady Stout, Lady AYard, Mrs. Tripp, Mrs. M. Myers, Mrs. A. Crawford was appointed;to deal with thie accounts. The offer'of Mrs. Blundell to pay for the making of shirts was accepted with thanks. It was reported to the committee by Dr. Platts Mills that the Medical Association had offered to attend gratuitously the wives and families of the men who were on active service, r
The hon. treasurer, of the Countess of Liverpool Fund for the Expeditionary Force reports further contributions as under:—Rose Ladies' Committee, a further £50; per Langridge, Barry and Co., Waijiawa, £20 155.-9 d.; by sales per Wellington Mayoress's Committee, £4 165.; per Nell Nathan's bazaar, £2 55.; by Nuhake committee,, .per G. W. Smith, treasurer, Wairoa, £61 10s.. 3d.
