It was not. anticipated that the result would be very great this year, owing to the many other appeals that were being made to the public purse during the last few months. It is therefore with gratitude for the liberal response that the local section of the Army announced yesterday that the. amount collected-ex-ceeded .-'any previous single, day's self- ' denial collection. QJlie amount raised was £85—£10 more than was raised on Self-Denial Saturday last year, Tlie special week's.appoa'l to tho whole of,tho Dominion will end on Thursday night next. The result will bo made known as :soon as all the returns aro received. ~ At an altar collection taken up at the Citadel'-last .-evening an additional £&0 was added to tho collection,, thus mnk- , ing £105, the total amount collected in Wellington. . . .
