The Mayor has been communicating with. the Defence authorities, and has also written to the Minis'ter asking for a reply to 1' recent promise toget medical and veterary reports on the proposed Terrace End site and on Trentham. Ho is satisfied that Palmerston is an excellent centre for a horse depot, and i; still hopeful that the camp will I fixed here. Objections, to the River Board classification of ratepayers closed yesterday. Pour hundred have been received. Mr. J., E.. Fulton, consulting engineer, of Wellington, has begun his inspection with a view, to reporting on the river on behalf of tho objectors. The annual sports of the Palmerston High School .were held yesterday, in fine weather. Some excellent times were put up. : . ' Rangiotu, Rangitanc, and * Bainesse have responded to the canvass for the Hnntly Fund with £29.
