PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

■ -—— '-*- The Petone Borough Council met on Thursday, there being present tho. Mayor (Mr. J. W. and Councillors List, Cox, Brocklebaiik, Anderson, Fin- • lay, Townsend, Jones, Tnieman,. and Forsyth. The secretary of the Ambulance Van Committee inquired when the council'would fulfil its promise to horse the van, and it was decided to reply, stating that as yet the sub-committeo appointed by the council- had been unable to procure a, suitable horse, but the matter was still in their hands. The Minister of Railways acknowledged rocoipt of the couucil'6'letter of October ' 16, with reference to the control and maintenance of jt-he Hutt Road, and advised that .tho communication had been referred to the officers of the Department for consideration. Councillor ' Cox moved pursuant to notice of motion:—"That the ' Government be urged to extend the provisions of Section 42 of the Municipal Corporations Act, so as to include all German-born residents." Councillor Townsend ■seconded the motion, pro forma, but upon being put the motion was lost. Pursuant to notice of motion the Mayor moved:—"That the motion rejected at the meeting of the council held on October 12, relating to an advance payment of £30 on account of subsidy agreed to be paid to the Hutt Park Committee, bo reinstated and approved." This motion led to a lengthy discussion, the administration of tho Hutt Park Committee receiving somo criticism. Councillor Townsend expressed the opinion that the council should effect a change in its repro-, sontatives to the Hutt Park Committee it dissatisfied with their actions. Councillor Anderson considered that if valid reasons coukl be shown as to why tho motion should be passed he would support it, but as yet ho had not heard any. In tho course cf a general discussion, Councillor Cox stated that if the Trotting Club relied upon the salo of "racecourse" whisky for its existence it was time it gave up business. Eventually the motion was put and carried by 6 votes t0.4.'
