POLICE.CASES '••; NEIGHBOURS QUARREL Mr. D. G A. Cooper, S.M., dealt with tho police : cases at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. As the result of two little episodes in Taranaki Street on October o and 9' last, Margaret Williams was charged (1) with wilfully damaging a glass , panel valued at ss. 6d., the property of Helen Johnstone, and (2) wilfully damaging a door-knocker valued at 35.; the property of the same pereou. The ovidenco showed that bad blood existed between accused and Holen Johnstone, and in retaliation for grievances accused l bad marched up to the front door of tho batter's house and committed tho damage mentioned. On the first charge she was fined 10s;, and ordered to pay ss. 6d. damage, and : costs 45., in default 24 hours' gaol, and on the second she .was ordered to pay tho damage done. . Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for defendant. OTHER CASES. George M'Cauley pleaded guilty to' tho theft of one set of carvers, a lawn' mower, and a pair of hedge clippers/ valued at £4 4s. 6d.,' from Adelih Lu<l-:' wig. In order that inquiries might be made concerning the case he was remanded to November 2. On the application of Mr. H. F. O'Leary,' bail' was allowed in £10, with sureties. Joseph Keen, alias Keane, and Arthur Dawson, was remanded to Wednesday next on an indictable charge of being found by night m a dwelling-place with intent to commit a crime. Tho premises in question were Said to-be. those of Mary. Sinclair, 116 Courtenay Irlace. ••■■.■ James Vipond Millican, arraigned on. six charges of false pretences, was remanded to Wednesday next. Mr. P. Wv Jackson appeared for the. accused. Norman Payne,, a member of the Expeditionary Force, charged with being the father of an illegitimate child, was remanded to November 3/ INEBRIATES. , A number of mon were charged with helpless drunkenness. Reece Herbert James was ordered to pay costs incurred, £1 7s. 6d., and a. prohibition order taken -out against him for 12 months. Michael Murphy was fined £1, and medical expenses 17s. M.. in default seven days' gaol. Joseph Smith \ra6 remanded to November 6. For being found drunk, John Pryse, a prohibited person, was sent to gaol_ for a month, Timothy Donovan was lined 10s. or 14 days' gaol, William Connolly fined 20s. or three days, Alfred George Sutton fined 10s, or 48 hours ' Three' first offenders, were dealt with. PARENTS FINED. The truant inspector (Mr.; John Dineen) proceeded against seventeen parents for failing to send their children to school. A number of the cases we're remanded, while fines of 10s. with costs Vs. were imposed on William Belsham, James Foothcad, Edmund H. Green, Fred Sago, and linos of 55., with costs 75., on Richard Austin, John Callanaii, Francis Cookson, Mrs. Florence Flynn, Patrick Shivnan, John J. Turnbull, and Arthur A. Whittington,-BY-LAW CASES. . Fines of 55., with costs Vs.,' were imposed on the following:—William J. Berry, and Thomas Gray, for having no tail-lights showing on their motor-cars after dark; James Grant, leaving a vehicle unattended; Frederick George' Skinner, "riding a motor-c,ycle without a number; John Hopere, failing to keep to the loft sido of tho streot. _ The latter was also convicted and discharged for driving a motor-car without, first obtaining a certificate.
