RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.

(By Telcsrapli.-Special Correspondent.) Christchurch, October 30. A gale from the north-cast was blowing when work was commenced this morning, but although u gfcat number of horses were out no inconvenience was .experienced, as none of them were Allotted fast work. The Cup candidates La Eeina, Merry Roc, Tannhnuser, Indigo, Myetcriach, Kilrain, Kooya, Multiply, and AVarsteji were out, and did steady pacing. Of the bunch, Expect probably beaVs tho brightest and most muscular appearance. The others are all well forward, especially Kooya, Kilrain, Multiply, LaKoina, anil Warstep. Hinaldo was also in attendance, and did two rounoV at fl s<wd hilf-pace, Ho is still Bligbtly sore, but

has not put on any surplus condition during his lew days' spell. Mr. W. G. Stead's latest purchase Feruinorz, by St. I'rusq.uiii—Musa, anu the- JlaktiT lilly Sweet Corn were given light tasks on the plough. Both are looking in good condition, and do not seem to liavo suffered as the result of the trip from Australia. Daylight Hill (Ayers), looking veil, negotiated five of the schooling hurdles in a finished manner. Among others doing half; to threequarter pace work were-.—Jlartigues, Gnome, I'irst Flight, Quarantine, Battle Kve, Hymettius, Slogan, Husheen, Troon, Holiday, (Jhortic, Kilineuy, Kcputation, Vocation, Court Martial, Keneontro, Autu'mnus, Miraculous, Nones, Freda, Floweret, Ilyeltus, Kaminoho, Varanian, Idealism, Honesty, Camulus, lhmeter, Angelina, Ghakwana, Horn Mncdouald, Blue Luke, Bold Stroke, Scotch Melody, Emperador, Postillion, Bee, and Twelfth Night. "The Looker-on" writes in the "Evening News":—The plough at Eiccarton was a trifle on the heavy side, but provided good going this morning for horses doing steady work. Chortle looks, if anything, more massive than he did at t?!o National, and hit out freely while doing steady work. He promises to be one of the best-liked horses in the Stow- . ards' Handicap, and such a quick beginner is sure to take a lot of catching. Sweet Corn, who ran second in the Gimcrack at the A.J.C. meeting is said to bo very fast. Sho' is a wiry-looking filly, and does not look the makings of a champion. Sho is engaged in the Juvenile- Handicap and the Electric Plate. uWarstep trotted on to the track behind Multiply and Expect, and looked small alongside them, but she is a mass of quality, and will keep both of them busy as far as sho goes. Downham has not grown much-since ho wa3 here at Easter time, but has thickened a good deal. ' His chance for the Stewards' Handicap- is greatly fancied by Hawke's Bay people. Multiply moved well while doing slow work. Ho looks very fit, and his connections are quietly confident that ho will run'well in the Cup. Postillion looks all the better for the racing he had at the Wellington meeting. He will bo ridden in the Stewarifs" Handicap by C. Price. Kooya will strip a better mare to-mor-row week than she did at Trentham. Ther are about _ eighty horses from other centres'working at Eiccarton, and a number more have yet to arrive. One of Eiualdo's hind fetlocks was rather badly swollen this morning. He has always been an unlucky horse. " ■Nones did good half-pace work to-day, and appeared to relish it. Rencontre does not look as if she will reproduce her two-year-old form. Very few of Obligado's stock, race on after they are two-year-olds.

ELLERSLIE TRACK WORK.

By TeloirraDß—Press Atracintion-CoDyridil Auckland, October 30. Work on the tracks at Ellerslie this morning was unimportant. Lloyd arrived yesterday with Sportsman and Kauron. The Napier horse'lliad's hero is in a bad way with kidney trouble, and is not likely to start at the meeting.
