A.verdict of suicide.was returned at" the inquest on Arthur Clarke, the second-class passenger who was found dead, with a towel twisted round Lis throat, in his cabin on the Malrura from Auckland last Saturday. Deceased was a clerk in. the employ of the Government at.Auckland. i ■ Clarke's wife . stated that he had threatened lior'with a knife, saying:— "The Germans have taken Sydney—they shan't take you." Three weeks previously he declared that there were Germans on the top.of their house, with a wireless plant.
