OFFERINGS FROM ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCHES.

. Yesterday a. special collection wob trkeii up at all the Catholib churches in the Wellington Archdiocese for the •relief of sufferers through the war in Belgium, Great Britain, and Ireland. Special Teferonco was made yestorday morning in St. Joseph's Church, Buckle Streot, to the necessity of prayers for. peace. It is a part of the ceremonial of the Forty Hours' Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, which began in that church yestorday, to have a special Mass for peace, and that will. be .celebrated this morning. The people, were reminded of tho significance of that. Mass at the present time and that by their prayers they could assist not only our own brave soldiers, but show practical sympathy with those in distress through the ravages of war. At tho evening dovotions in the presence of a very large oongregation, an eloquent sermon was preached by the Very Reverend Father O'Connell, S.M., and a special feature was the devotional and finished singing of the ohoir under the conductorship of Mr. . Bernard Page. This evening tho preacher will be the Reverend' Father P. J, Smyth, S.M., and tho choir will sing Mendelsohn's Oratorio "Lauda, Sion." a hymn oomposed by St. Thomas Aquinas, in honour of the Holy Eucharist.
