LADIES'GOLF TOURNEY

PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tho semi-finals in the Ladies' Provincial Golf _ Championship tourney at Heretaunga Links were played off in fine but windy weather yesterday.—Miss L.. Brandon.. beat Mrs. Gibbon, 8 up and 6 to play, and Miss B. Wood beat Miss Abraham, 6 up and, 5 to play. Tho matches, which were ; expected to bo closo, turned out the.-reserve, the wind -troubling tho defeated players. Miss Wood won -the first two holes in bogy, but lost the third. Five halves followed. Tho scores registered showed Jine golf. A four at tho ninth mado Miss Wood 2 up, and perfect play also won her the following four holes and the match.

Miss L. Brandon was playing in great form in her game with Mrs. Gibbon. She lost tho first hole (5 and 4), and then, playing won 8 holes in succession. A visit to a bunker at the eighth cost her a, seven, otherwise her out half was.without a blemish. Halves.at the tenth and eleventh finished her effort in the semi-final. Her out score was: 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 5, 5, 7, 4— 42.

Miss B. Wood. (Christchurch) and Miss L. Brandon (Wellington) play off the final at 1.30. to-day, and, judging by'the play of both ladies, a great struggle is expected. They are both in fine form, and in tho wind yesterday they wero playing exceedingly fine golf. It proniises to be a- final well worth witnessing. The four-ball bogy foursome, results were as follow:—
