PACIFIC ISLANDS OCCUPIED Toklo, October 20. Official.—The Japanese.'have occupied the Marianne (Ladrones) and Marsnall Islands, and the East and West Caroline Archipelago for military purposes These islands all lie north and northeast of New Guinea, and have a total area of about 1000 square miles. THE LOST CRUISER. Tokio; October 20. The cruiser Takacliilo, sunk by a mine off Kiao-chau, was on patrol duty. Destroyers hurried to her assistance, but the cruiser disappeared . quickly. Rescue was difficult owing to the darkness. ' . Twenty-eight officers, fifty-four petty officers, ,and 189 seamen were drowned. (Rec. October 22, 0.25 a.m.) Tolilo, October 21. The German torpedoer S9O, which escaped from Tsingtau during darkness, was found agroupd and destroyed sixty miles south of Kiao-chau.. The S9O was launched in 1900. She had a displacement of 360 tons and a speed of 27J knots. . " .
