PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
The fortnightly meeting of the committee of the Society, for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals'was held last night. Mr. ,V. R. Meredith presided. It was announced that Miss Dunbar had been appointed an additional collector for the society with jurisdiction over the outlying districts of tho city.
The society was instructed to appoint' a date within throe weeks for the an-' nnal meeting. In his report to the society the. inspector (Captain Henry) stated that he had discovered and remedied a num. ber of cases of cruelty to animals in. tho city. Hb asked the committeo to request the City Council-' to have a water trough erected on the left-hand sido of the road opposite the supply store near the Karori tunnel in lieu of the old broken trough on tho Karori sido of the tunnol. This would enable horses going '"to and from Northland and to and from Karori to have a drink. - Tho inspector's report _was adopted. The following subscriptions were received and acknowledged for the past fortnight: Mrs.' 11. P. Kawson amd Mr. 6. B. Davy, £1 Is. each: Dr. F. Bawerbank, 10s. 6d.; Messrs. Douglas, 7s. Gd.; Mesdames Griffiths, Barry, Jack, and Messrs. Tripo and Ellis, J. Farqu'har, AY. Naismith and Co., A. G. E., Ellis and Manton, C. P. Powles, .Kirkpatrick and Co., E. C. Brown and Co., and New Zealand Bible and Tract-, Society, Ss. each; Mesdames Andrews and Keading, Miss Sommerville, Mr. J. G. Turner, Dr. Margaret M'Cahon, and "Two Friends," 2s. 6d. each; Mesdames Chittenden and Nicholls, .ilnd "Two Friends," 2s. each; total, £7 ss. Gd.
