MAGISTRATE'S COURT
CIVIL BUSINESS. A HOTEL TRANSACTION Reserved judgment was delivered by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday in a long-stand-ing case in w'nioh Wm. Kingston Connell and John Connell (in their own right and as assignees of Margaret M'lntosh), proceeded against John Brodie for the return of a deposit of £100 held in connection with a lease of tho Royal Tiger Hotel. After reviewing the case at some.length the Magistrate j*avo judgment for plaintiff, for £100 (interest was not allowed), with costs £8. -Notice of appeal was given, and sureties were fixed at £8 Bs.; Mr. T. C. A. Hislop appeared for plaintiffs and Mr. D ; . M. Findlay for defendant.
A DECISION RESERVED. Mr./ Riddell reserved his decision in respect to the civil dispute, Mary G. Todd v. Ha-rcourt and Company, a claim for £21. Mr. H. P. O'Leary appeared for plaintiff and Mr. Peacock for defendant. DEFAULTING DEBTORS'' LIST: Judgment was given -for plaintiff by default in tho following undefended civil cases by Mr. W. G. Riddell yesterday Green and. Davis v. Robert Eagle, £9 Bs. 2d., costs £1' Bs. 6d.; Lfiery and Co. v. Chow John Lee, costs only, 55.; Wollerman ; and Co. v. A civil caso in which the parties were A. W. and P. C. Brailsford, warehousemen, Wellington (plaintiffs), and E. C. Browne and Co., Ltd., tailors and meraers (defendants), was adjourned ponding the taking of further evidence at Napier. _Mr. J. S. Barton ap-peared-for .plaintiffs, and Mr. J. J. M'Grath for defendants. POLICE BUSINESS. Frederick Montague and Thomas Renwick were each charged with helpless drunkenness, and were convicted and ordered to pay the medical expenses incurred, in default 48 hours' gaol. Similarly charged, Joseph Keen Nolan was remanded for a week. For' drunkenness, Wm. Clouston and Patrick Brady were each fined 205., or three days, and Chas. Coylo 10s., or 48 hours. James Wallace was fined. £3 or 14 days for using obscene languago on the Railway Wharf.
