MASTERTON NOTES
Tho Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew a race from Christehurc'h on Saturday, an airlins distance of 230 miles. Messrs. Drake Bros. , loft provided the winner in Blue Jacket, which is practically an untried bird. _ Tho Mnsterton C-Uvn Club held two sweepstakes on Saturday afternoon. The first was won by R. Hunt, and the second by J. Simpson, ,Tho Miistortou C'o-operativo Dairy Company is paying out Is. per. lb. for the October supply -of butter-fat. Much satisfaction is' expressed by local wcol-giwvers at tbft announcement that the original dates for tho Wellington wool sales aro being adhered to. Tho rain that fell on Saturday and Sunday has freshened up tho pastures. It has not been sufficient, however, to appreciably affect tho cereal crops. A keen frost on Monday morning did considerable damage to potato crops in tho district.
