Professor Laby, of Victoria College, Wellington, has been appointed Professor of Natural Philosophy at the, Melbourne' University. Professor Laby holds tho Chair of Physics at Victoria College. He was educated at the Sydney. University and Emmanuel College,. Cambridge. He was Demonstrator of Chemistry at the University of Sydney, 1901-5; Science Research. Scholar of the- Exhibition of 1851; Joulo Student of the Royal Society; Research Exhibitioner and Siidbury Hardyman Prizeman,' Emmanuel College, Cambridge; President for 1911 Section A, Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science. Professor Laby has taken a prominent part in the agitation for university reform in New Zealand. ' ~ .
