OUT-OF-WORK CARPENTERS
DEPUTATION TO THE MAYOR OF AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Frosa. Association.) Auckland, October 19. 'A deputation representing 250 unemployed carpenters in the city -waited upon the Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) to-day and asked him to endeavour to find some way of providing relief.. Mr. Parr replied that he realised the seriousness of tho situation, but the difficulty was to know just what to do in tho case of skilled artisans. It was not hard to find work for pick and shovel men,'but unless property-owners would go on building there was bound to bo a dearth of artisan employment.' He would appeal to speculative builders and others to go ahead, and would also ask tho Primo Minister for his assistance. Tho Mayor pointed out that tho City Council had already put in hand all possiblo works. Ho suggested that tho Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners should appoint a deputation to wait upon the Citizens' PatrioticCommittee at noon, and place the matter before the business mon of the community.
