FRENCH CLUB
The Foto Annuelle, of the French Club, which was held on Friday ovening laefc in the Theosophical Society's Hall, was one of the most enjoyable concerts whicli' the club has given. There was a full audience, and the fre-. cjuent applause showed that the variouß items were well appreciated. The overture was a delightful rendering of Macdowell's "Concert Study in F Sharp," by Miss Fay Rayward, and was followed by songs by Miss H.eleno de Cleene ("Serenade du Passant"), Miss Simon ("Jβ" viens a toi"). and Mr. W. A. Spencer ("Au pays"):'.recitations by Mies Iris Woodhouso ("Lo Petit Savoyard"), Miss Doris Hulme "Los Matelots"), and Mr. J, Rigs, and a piano solo ("Charniouse") by Miss Une Simon. Mesdames T. A. Churchee and DechanetMacintah a«6isted as accompanists. Tho presentation of medals and diplomas gained in the recent examination .was then made by the president, Mr. A. S. Menteath, who delivered a 6hdrt address on the aims of the club. Mr. James Macintosh (Vice-Consul for France, and patron of the club),' and Mr. J, Rigg also briefly addressed the meoting, and pointed out that the club affords a fine opportunity of acquiring a practical acquaintance with tho French language. Tho second part of the programme wae a representation by' members of the Club of Labiche's very amusing comedy "La Grammaire." Tho parts were capably taken by Mr. Spencer as Calxmssat, Mr. T. King, who was admirable as Poitrinas, Mr. J. H. Chapman as Jean, and Mr. Adamson as Maehut, while Miss de Cleene was very charming as Blanche. The club is to be congratiilated on. having given such an enjoyable entertainment, and the prospects for a very successful session during tho coming year are undoubtedly bright. .
