RIFLE-SHOOTING
OPENING OF THE SEASON, Tho Wellington Old Naval Defence Eijte Club opened its season's shooting on the Miraniar Range on Saturday. The conditions wore nine shots and a sighter at each, 800 and 500 yards. Several new members wore out >for. their initial shot. Tho best scores aro as follow:—
The club also fired four teams'matches of four men each for the C. W. Martin Challenge ; Badges. President Eabe's team wore the holders, and they wero successful in retaining the shield by four points, their soores being-.—President J. Rabe, 78 Rflmn. M. Hugo, G9; Rflmn. H. Mason, 69; Rflmn. T. Dell, 64; total, 2SO. Deputy-President W. Harris's team were runners-up with a scoro of 27G. > Next Saturday the club will continue its club competitions. The conditions will bo: Nine shots at each, 500 and COO yards. On Labour Day (Monday nest) members and their lady' friends are Invited to upend the day on the range. Alexander has donated a trophy for the lady nuking tho best scoro, and President J. Rabe is presenting a trophy for the members' handicap match. Refreshments will be provided on .tho range. SUBURBS CLUB. ' Thirty members of the Suburbs Rifle Club took part in a practice match at the club's range, Broadway, Miramax, on Saturday. Tho opening of the.shooting season has not yet been decided on, owing to tho supply of ammunition from tho Defence Department not yet being available The club proposes visiting Pulmorston North on Labour Day to firo a 20inen.teams match against the Linton Bjfle Club.
