4 THE N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS A. D. S. DUNCAN CHAMPION (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, fjctobor 18. . A' very successful New Zealand Golf Championship Meeting was brought to- a close on Saturday, when tho amateur and professional champions for 1914 proved to be A. D. S. Duncan, of Wellington and E. S. Douglas, ot Wanganui, respectively. In the amateur contest Duncan proved superior to his opponent, winning by 11 up and 10 to play. The first round was played in the morning, when Duncan established a substantial lead of 7 up on tho first 18 holes. In tho second round Duncan added to his lead by taking 4 holes in succession. Harold win the 24th, leaving Duncan 10 up. The Wellington man followed up his advantage and secured the next hole, leaving him donny 11. The 2Gth hole was halved in one under bogey, giving Duncan the match. In the professional contest Douglas beat M'Ewan one up at the 18th hole, and thus secured the double honour of winning both open and professional championships. The golf throughout was of a very high standard, Douglas taking 39 and 38 and M'Ewan 38 and 40. At the 17th hole Douglas was dormy one. Tee shots at the 18th lay sido by side in the fairway, both perfect strokes. A couple of lovely iron shots again placed them sido by side short of the gorse hedge. The approaches were both on the green, Douglas to putt.' He was short, and M'Ewan had:his chance for the hole, but failed to get up. Douglas putted out in five, halving the hole and winning the match, one up. The scores were: Douglas: 5, 6, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 6. In-4, 4, 4, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4, 5. M'Ewan: Out—3, 4, 4, 5. 5, 4, 3, 4, 6. The complete prize list for the meet-' ing is as follows: — Amateur Championship—A./ D. S. Duncan. Challengo Cup Gold Medal, and prize presented by Mr. S. Thorne George, M.L.C. J. Harold, runner-up, silver medal and prize presented by Mr. G. R. Blooinfiew. Open Championship—E. S. Douglas (professional), gold medals for 1913-14 and prize of £20. A. D. S. Duncan, runner up, trophy. J. Clements (professional), third prize of £5. Professional Match—E. S. Douglas, prize of £10. W. M'Ewan, runner-up, prize of £2. Inter-club Challenge Match—Auckland A team (J. C. Burns, W. S. Ralf, J. F. Sharland, W. B. Colbeck)/ Mr. E. D. O'Rorke's Challenge Vase —Bogey handicap: A D. S. Duncan and J. BrLusk (equal). Prizes presented by Mr: H. Horton —Four-ball bogey—F. Ross and S. Morpeth. Prizes presented by Mr. A. M. Myors, —Medal handicap: E. R. Bloomfield 1, and E. A.
