Tallow was in poor demand at last salo rates. Good sound pelted skin 6 rold 3d. to Id. better than a fortnight ago Other classes also showed an improvement though not to suoh an extent as the good nkins. Ox and cow hides were roughly Id. to Jd. dearer; calf skins were in better demand at l-Bd. to Jd. above last sale values.

The Bank of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 4J per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent..' and on January 29 to 3 per cent. On July 39 tho rate was raised to 4 per cent., on July 31 it was raised to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 tho rate was-reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to 5 per cent., at which rate is now stands. Tho Bank of Franco rate is 7 per cent., as against 7 per cent, last week, and 4 per cent, lost year OPEN MARKET HATES. Tho open market discount rate for threo monlhs' bills is 31-8 to 33 per cent., «6 compared with 33-16 per cent, last week, and " 15-16 per cent. last year. Short loans are Quoted at 2 per cent., oa against 2} per cent, last week, and 33 per cent, last year. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat.—Tho market is firmer, and sellers are offering but sparingly, and 4<s. 6d. is asked for South Australian cargoes afloat. .. Flour.—Holders are now firmer, and Australian, patents aro quoted at 365. and upwards. Oale —Market dull. New Zealand ei store, offered at 295. to 31a. Bcnns.—Generally quiet, but prices steady at 40s. to 425. for New Zealand.
Peas—Tho market is firm, and New Zoaland m<ip!c3 are fetching 58s. to 60s. Barley— Generally quiet. Australian ChcTalier is quoted at. 31s. 1 6d. to 345. Sugar.—American granulated sugar, on 6pot, 30s. per cwt.
