Tho "Daily Telegraph," commenting on the laying up of tho Maheno, allegedly owing to the firemen declining to work except on terms which tho purchasers of their services declare they are unable to pay, instances tho interference of iho Government to prevent rises in commodities, and saye the question now is, Will the Government on the same principle seize the recalcitrant firemen and force them into tho stokehold, where State officials will sell, their labour at a fixed price? It might ho just as serious for tho peoplo to bo deprived of oversea communication as of cream of tartar, the cornering of which the Government took steps to prevent.
