SOLDIER CHARGED WITH FORGERY
GUNNER -COMMITTED TRIAL. Lawrence Gerald HeaTy, a gunner in the Royal N.Z. Artillery, came before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper in the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon. Healy was charged (1) with forging the name of J. R. Henderson on or about August 26 to an order for goods, valued ut £2 55., and causing Win. F. Christie to act on it as though it were genuine; (2) about August 27, forging the same name to an order for goods, valued at £16 10s., causing Win.- J. Saunders to act on it as though it were genuine. Both charges were indictable ones. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for accused.
Considerable evidence wae taken, at the conclusion of which pleas of not guilty were entered to both charges. The defence was reserved, and accused was committed for trial at the Supreme Court sessions.
Ba"il was allowed in £50, with two sureties of £25.
