APPEAL FOR FUNDS

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION. The Wellington Committee of the St. John Ambulance Association has received the following letter, dated August 27, and signed by Lord Ranfurly, on behalf of the Special Commit lee of the European War Fund, formed by the Ambulanco Department of the Grand Priory of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England:— ! "I wish to ask your earnest cooperation in tho difficult task laid before the Order. The Ambulanco Department of tho Order of St, John has 4COO men with tho forces, and 100 mirses at the front. It is ■ essential that wo make a great effort immediately to increase our funds that we may be able to' continue ever ready to meot any re- . quiremcnts on behalf of the wounded. I feel sure that your centra and friends in your district will give us valuable support in this effort to alleviate suffering and save tho lives of our fellow-creatures. No one knows what we may. be required to do; we wish to bo prepared for every emergency and be able immediately to.answer any call mado upon us by tho Government. I hope you will bring my letter without delay before your committee, as tho matter is very urgent. Trusting you will financially help us to fulfil our obligations." A postscript in Lord Ranfuriy's handwriting ruus ;—"Trust you will do your utinoso." The Special ■ Committee of Ladies of tho Order lias for its president Hor Majesty Queen Mary, and the chairman is Her Grace the Duohess of Bedford, while tho secretary is Lady Perrott. The committee of the Wellington Centre has already taken steps to collect funds by means of collection postcards, which it is hoped will realise £200 monthly. It only wants a little more energetic support in distributing the cards to obtain tho results aimed at. Mr. Bainbridgo, tire secretary (at 25 Panama Street), would be glad to welcome asistahce in filling and addressing onvelopes_ and delivering them. It has taken quite a long time to get up to £15 10s., the amount banked bo far;
