TROOPERS AT THE Y.M.C.A.

The Y.M.O.A. has become a very popular rendezvous for the' troopers. Day by day increasing numbers take advantage of the privileges offered. Yesterday the bufldiuig was crowded with men, most of whom took advantage of tbeir leave to write, a line to the old. folks at home. The gymnasium carnival attracted a great deal of , attention. Refreshments were .served and much appreciated by the men. ' Mrs. H. W. tho hostess,- assisted by Miss Kersley. The men are cordially invited to spend any leave they may have at the rooms. Writing tables and all requisites are provided in abundance^

Mr. W. Farquhar Young, the Dunedin baritone, who has just returned irom Europe, in the course of an interview, said: "Compared with other Continental peoples, the Germans appear to be sullen, whilst those of the successful merchant class and the amiy men—the so-called aristocrats of Germany—were in their manner towards us particularly arrogant and nasty. From what 1 saw of the Germans in tbeir own country I have the notion that the poorer- people are by nature particularly likeable, affectionate, and simple in their in some way soured in respect to the English. Tlio , ruling classes, on the other hand, seem to me to bo insufferably insolent and domineering. When in Berlin I visited, amongst other places, a great exhibition of war trophies and battle pictures. As might have been expected, the pictures were all of German , victories. Evidently Waterloo was a Gorman victory, aecerding to the Germans. I searched their Waterloo pieces in vain for any representation of Wellington • or the Knglish. According to these paintings the Germans alono won Waterloo!" For protection against smallpox, diphtheria, and other infections, put thne drops of SANDER'S EUCALYPTI EXTRACT on loaf sugar, and allow it to dissolve in month. Sander's Extract is effective, pleasant.* The Crown Clothing Company (N.Z.), Ltd., 77 "Willis Street, have an announcement in this issue regarding their weekly hiilf-liolitlay. Messrs. J. It. Terry and Co., Feilding, have 220 acres of freehold Rongitikei land for sale. "NAZOL" taken on somo lumps of sugar and allowed to slowly dissolve-in tho mouth will promptly cure a Cold in the Throat or Chest. For Colds in thd Head it is advisable in addition to uso a Nazol Inhaler and inhale through the iK-ntrlh no diroctoil. No <.-old um w jtl». Etand this treatment—it must succumb.— Advt, ,
