PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. London, August 27. Dr. Allen (N.Z.), of St. Bartholomew, lias offered his services to the War/Office. Miss von Meyern,- of Auckland, is staying down on tho south coast for a few weeks. Mr. Moss Davis, of Auckland, has contributed 100 guineas to tho Prince of Wales's Fund. ■ Miss Eileen Sibbald, of Dunedin, hopes to return by the Ceramic next' month, and to visit Scotland shortly. Lord Islington, as Under-Secretary of State for the ColonieSj has appointed \'i\\ H. R. Cowell as his private secretary. ~„,. Miss Doris Ponsonby, of Dunedin, is, far as can be ascertained, still on the Continent. She was in France the veek before last. Mr. T. jJY. Leys, of Auckland, and his party arc at present in Nottingham, after having stayed in Scotland and Yorkshire. . They go on to Devonshire on Saturday. Mrs. and Miss Goring Thomas', of Christchurch,. liave had to postpone their projected trip to Guernsey, as it is reported that there is only food in the island for tho residents; New Zealauders who have trade associations with Bristol have cabled offering to the city a gift of frozen meat to the value of .-E4GO for tho families of Bristolians who are on active service. Dr. W. H. Johnson, R.A.M.C, and Dr. A. M'Master. R.A.M.C, Mr. Jeffcoat, Mr. Corkill, all R.A.M.C, and Mr. Rout, Infantry, have applied for commissions. All these gentlemen are members of tho Australasian Club, Edinburgh. Miss Florence Sheard, Miss Violet Mills, and Miss Eyre, all of Canterbury, who havo had to abandon a visit to the Continent, are touring in Cornwall, and later go to Scotland, where Miss Mills. will stay with her sister, now Dr. Amy Gibbs, in Glasgow.
