After having been held up inside tho Wairau liiver for over 11 weeks, tho small coastal steamer Wairau made her reappearance at Wellington late yesterday afternoon. ' For some considerable time tho authorities have been, endeavouring to mako a new entrance to the river, and it is reported that their work his been successfully completed. The old entrance « gradually filling up, and this has caused o greater volume of water to flow through tho new cnannel. The result was that when the Wairau crossed outwards yesterday morning there vraa six feet six inches of water on. the bar.
