ORIENTAL BAY

THE PROPOSAL TO RECLAIM IT. At the " next- meeting of the City Council Councillor W. H. P. Barber will move:. '"That the following resolution passed at a meeting of the Wellington City Council held on July 30, 1914, be rescinded, via.: 'That 'the Wellington City Council enter into negotiations with tho Harbour Board .for its consent to reclaim part of Oriental Bay, and that when such consent is obtained, ■if the terms thereof and the estimated cost are. satisfactory to the council, that the council's resolution of December 15, 1910, be then rescinded, and the reclamation be proceeded with and completed as soon- as possible and vested in the City for the purposes of a park and playing ground.' " As long ago as July 30 Councillor Buddie moved the resolution which Councillor Barber wishes the council to rescind, but so far no action; as far as is known, has been taken. Councillor Buddie has inquired at the last two meetings whether the required information had been obtained from the Harbour Board, but on each occasion a reply in the negative has been given. On aesthetic grounds there is'a good deal of opposition to tho proposal to "make a straight line out of a curve, as Councillor Buddie proposes. Curves mean beauty, according to the eminent town-planners who visited Wellington a few months ago.
