WHARF UNION-IN. TROUBLE. A meeting of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Union was held in the King's Theatre "yesterday . afternoon, when about 200 members attended. The proceedings were not open to the Press, and 1 the following official statement was -made to a Dominion reporter by Messrs.G. Gray and J. Glover, who had been elected a Press committee, at the close of .the meeting:'— ',■'■■„ . "A meeting of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Union was held to hear the statement of the president as to the best methods of improving the union. Mr. J. L. Radcliffe (president) spoke at some length, stating that he-wanted the union to be governed by democratic control. "Mr. G. Bruce (late assistantsecrctaTy of the old union) also spoke and gave his' views on the present union and the necessity of the men who found the money having a say in the spending of it. A number of questions were asked, and thesa were answered by the president. It was decided that a meeting of tlie union should be held as soon as possible to pass rules for the election of officers and executive." It might be explained that in the present rules there is no provision made for the election of officers at other times than at annual general meetings, flie opinion was held that if the present executive went out of office the union could not fill the various positions till the annual meeting, and therefore the union would not navo any controlling body. It is understood that a meeting of the union will bo held on Labour Day. '
