SOLDIERS IN TROUBLE
CHARGES OF FORGERY. Lawrence Gerard Healy, a gunner" in the Royal New Zealand Artillery, was charged before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday—(l) with forging the name of J. R. Henderson on or about August 26 'to an order for goods valued at £2 65., and. causing Wm. F. Christie to act on it as though it were genuine; (2) about August the, same name to an order for goods valued at £1(? 10s., causing Wm. J. Henderson to act upon it as though it were genuine. Bothcharges were indictable ones, Mr. H. F. 0 Leary appearing. for accused. Jolin (fßobertson i captain in the-New Zealand'"Staff 'Corps and Deputy-Assistant Quartermaster-Gen-eral, in his evidence said that during August he' was an official at the .Defence'. Department'in 'Buckle Street.' During'that time acoused might have been employed-as orderly to "Colonel Johnston, and would have had ample opportunity to examine his (witness's) signature Witness had not signed the orders produced in court. ' To Mr. O'Leary: Accused was not the only orderly employed at the time, and others had equal opportunity of examdining, his (witness's) signature. '■: At this.stage the healing of the case was adjourned till 2.15 p.m. on Thursday. ~■..'■■.. Bail was allowed in £50 and two sureties of £25.
Charles Hector Dudley, a- trooper, appeared' to answer two charges—(l) obtaining 12b.' 6d. from Ralph /Diehl with intent to defraud., and (2) obtaining £4 from Christopher Jansen with' intent to defraud. A plea of guilty was entered to both charges, ,which were alleged to have been committed on October 3. Accused was remanded-for sentence until ■Wednesday next.
