BOMBARDMENT OF TAHITIBordeaux, October 9. Official.—The German cruisers fired '150 shells into Papeete. The commercial quarters. were set on Sre, and material damage was done. Sailors and a- detachment of colonial infantry prevented the enemy landing. • New York, October 9. Passengers by the Moana from San Francisco state that the French gunboat Zeleoj sunk by German cruisers near Papeete, had previously captured the German vessel Walkure. The French had stripped the Zelee and mounted the guns ashore. When the cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau appeared the French fired shells, which, fell short.- Tho Germans soon sank the Zelee, and the Walkure steamed off. The French burned forty thousand tons of coal to prevent its capture. ALL WELL IN NEW GUINEA. Melbourne, October 10. A wireless message states that the troops in New Guinea are all.well.
