ENTERTAINMENTS

HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. A capital programme is being presented this' week at His Majesty's Theatre. Among the best of the performers are the Lessos, equilibrists, jugglers, and comedians, the great Westin, whose protean performance is well, received, the Miltons, expert comedv skaters, and Rosa Loader, a merry comedienne. Half price is now being charged to members of the Expeditionary Force, a concession which is being fully appreciated by the lads in khaki. There will be a matinee as well as an evening performance to-morrow. EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. /'Orders Under Seal" is the feature picture at Everybody's Pictures, where there is seldom even standing room of an evening. Having a strong war terest, the picture, with its excellent story of daring adventure, suits the popular taste down to the ground. There is also being shown at the Old Opera House a special "War Supplement," which includes pictures of the British troops on the march and other military subjects suited to the momentous times in which we live. KING'S THEATRE. .When Mabel Normand and' Charles Chaplin are bracketed together in a comic picture the whole world laughs,, for these two delightful people are possessed of the rare power of being able to convey their strong comedy faculties, without '.he aid' of speech. "Mabel at the Wheel" employs the laughter-raising efforts of both these artists, and all picture-lovers concede that it is on a level with "Mabel's Adventure" and other excruciatingly funny films associated with. them. Gaumont's War Special is another snapshot series of topical moment. There will be a matinee at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow, when the full.programme will be shown.. MACMAHON'S THEATRE. . The best story picture that is being shown at MacMahon's Theatre this week is "The Rosary," an'appealing incident of the American War of hide-1 pendence, and notable alike for the excellence of the photography, and the sustained dramatic interest of the story. • Another melodramatic offering I which occupies a star position on the'' present bill and is of a decidedly sensational order is the- picture entitlod 1 "In the Clutch of the Ku Klux-Klan." j There is a strong list of supplemen-1 tary • films. Business continues good I at the little theatre in Manners Street. I

, THE EMPRESS THEATRE. _ "The Mystery of Pino Creek Camp," the "feature" drama by the Warner Company, which constituted- *the prime attraction of the new programme at the Empress Theatre continuous, pictures 'yesterday,' tells the interesting story of Nell, an orphan girl at a big Oregon pine, sawmill camp, and her lovo for Dick Draudt, a worthy young workman who is infatuated with Nell, and.who is a skilled violinist. She leaves for New York, to be trained in tho art) without knowing that Dick has been, arrested on a charge of having committed a murder, of which he is innocent, and for which he is sentenced to- penal servitude in the woods of Florida. ( Nell becomes afamous violinist, and while touring Florida learns that tho real murderer has confessed, and is able to persuade the.Governor to interest himself in Dick's case. Supporting the "star" film are: "Beautiful Banks of the Rhine" (a beautiful scenic), "Jealousy of Jane" (Imp comedy), "What Cupid Did" (S. and A. comedy), "Dupin tho Flirt" (Urban comedy), and "Nature's Babies" (interestng study of young birds). SIR DOUGLAS MAWSON'S LECTURE The box plans for Sir Douglas Mawson's lectures, which are to be given at the' Grand Opera House next Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, will bo open at the Dresden this morning, and judging, by the interest already being displayed in. the visit of Sir Douglas, it is anticipated that the box office will have a busy time. The net proceeds of the tour go to, reducing the debt which, still exists on the.expedition. WALTER KIRBY RECITAL. At his song-recital,/ in tho Grand Opera House next Monday evening, Mr. Walter Kirby will have tho assistance of Miss Barry, mezzo soprano; Miv F. R. Johnstone, 'cellist; Miss Mono, Moore, solo pianist; and Mr. Fred. G. Burke, a talented Irish baritone, who will make his first appoarance in Wellington, and, in addition to solo work, will bo associated with Mr. Kirby in duets from "La Bohemo" and Sullivan's "Prodigal Son. 1 ' Mrs. E. H. Quereo will be the accompanist. The programme will be published in full tomorrow, and will be found to be a most attractivo one, and full of interest to music lovers. The reserved seat plan is at the Dresden, and the popular prices of admission should ensure a good attendance.
