BAPTIST UNION

MINISTER STRUCK OFF THE ROLLS.

The Executive Council of the New Zealand Baptist Union continued its sittings in Wellington yesterday. The Eev. A. E. Kerr presided, and sonie important business was transacted. Mr. Walter Lambourne, treasurer of the union, presented the annual balancesheet, which showed an income of £1630. The expenditure amounted to £1718 leaving a deficit of £78. However, various promises had been made, and it was probable that the sum mentioned would be liquidated. ■ The report of Mr. A. Hoby on the finances of ihe foreign mission section showed an income of £2952, and an expenditure of £3612. Hero again it is probable that the deficit of £734 would be wiped off as a result of various promises. Miss Bico (Napier) and Miss Hall (Auckland) wore both accepted for Foreign and Mission Service in India. • The general organiser (the Eev. A. I North) presented tho secretary's statement. The term for_ which Mr. North was appointed organiser had now expired, and he was accordingly appointed financial secretary for the Dominion. Satisfactory reports from the various auxiliaries were presented by the fololwing:—Rov. Howard Elliott (Auckland), -Rev. J. J. North (Canterbury), Eov. E. H. Hobday (Otago), and Eev. J. W. Hinton (Wellington). G ■■•-• Rev. R. S. Grey reported the receipt of an anonymous donation of £100 to the general fund. • The name of the Rev. A. T. Brainsby was. regretfully struck off the ministerial roll. Mr. Montague Lascolles offered to support a-native preacher at Bengal, and the offer was gratefully-accepted. Nurse Oowlos, who proceeded to India threo years ago, was placed on the permanent staff. She was successful at tho examinations. Tho Baptist Womon's Missionary Union balance-3hoet was presented by Mrs. Blackburno, and, showed an income of £486 7s. 6d. Mr. 6. C. Garlick, of Auckland, presented tho report of the Manurowa Children's Homo, which showed that £7900 has been raised for _ its construction. Tho homo will be officially opened freo of debt on October 17. A welcomo tea was tendered to tho delegates by tho Baptist Churches of Wellington in the evening. It Was stated that the executive expects to conclude its.sittings to-morrow.
