"ON THE WRONG LINE"
ANR MR. RUSSELL'S SOBRIQUET. An inadvetent mistake made by tho Prime Minister in quoting' from the Budget was seized upon eagerly by Mr. G. W. RusseH in the House of Representatives last night, but his joy, signified by boisterous laughter, was shortlived. Mr. Massey was quoting in order to show that Mr. Russell, who had just spoken, had not quoted rightly, and he r,ead the wrong line, discovering his own mistake before it was pointed out to him. Mr. Russell had been denouncing the Local Railways Bill, and Mr, Massey was taking him to task for his speech, which was of a somewhat extraordinary oharacter. When Mr. Massey mado the mistake referred to, Mr. Russell guffawed loudly • and shouted: "You're on the wrong line. Read tho other one." , Mr. Massey: I should bo very sorry to bo on the wrong lino ns often as the honourable gentleman. I should be very sorry to stand up in tho House and denounce a Bill for half an hour and thon say calmly, "I am going to vote for it." That is tho sort of thing that has earned for tho honourable gentleman tho sobriquet by which he is known from end to end of this country.
