Yap is the terminus of a cable connecting with the 'American. tansPacific cable, and also possesses a powerful wireless station. (Rec. October 9, 1.10 a.m.) Sydnay, October 8. Official confirmation has been received of the capture of Nauru Island from Germany. A warship took possqssion of the island with, all due cere^ It is estimated there are sufficient phofsphates on- the island to last fifty, years at the present rate of shipment. Nauru or Pleasant Island, lies between the German Solomons, and the Marshall Islands.
