HIBERNIAN SOCIETY
St, Patrick's Hall was taxed to its utmost on Tuesday night in accommodating the membors of the Hibernian branones in this city_, male and female, i to celebrate tho fortieth anniversary of the St. Patrick's (Parent) Branch, No. 1)5. The occasion was a unique one, inasmuch as it was remarkable that tli* officer who was deputed by tho Executive Director, then located in Melbourne, Victoria, under warrant dated Sept-ember 9, 1873, to open the branch was present, although in his 80th' year, to partake in the jubilations. The proceedings were presided over by Bro. J. O'Brien, president of St. Patrick's, and there wore also present, in addition to Ero. Bohan, the Rev. Fathers H. J. Herring, S.M., and A. Venning, S.M., Bros. J. M'Carfchy, 0. J. O'Brien, T. Pearce, and Wi Gleeson (representing tho Lower Hutt Branch), Bros. C. O'Shea and J. Lineha.ii (Petoue Branch), Bros. T. Murphy, and W. H. Gileß (Wellington South), Ray (Wellington North), Butcher (Dunedin), and Sisters B. Craig and E. Carinody (St. Mary's Ladies' Branch), whilst the district I executive was represented by Bro.- P. ;D. Hoskins,_ district deputy. A feature .of the evening was the presentation of a Dominion testimonial to Bro. Bohan to mark the great work that lie has done for Hibcrnianism in this Dominion, and this was conveyed to him in a culogistic speech by tho president (Bro. J. O'Brien), ably supported by .P.P. Bro. Carrigan, who joined the branch in 1876, and who was associated with Bro. Bohan in the management of the society in its early stages. The Rev. Fathers Herring and Venning, Bro. J. J. L. Burke, P.P., and Bro.. Councillor J. E. Fitzgeraid, also spoke.
