PROTECTION OF ANIMALS
Tile fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last night. Mr. S. Jameson presided. In his report, Captain Henry reported various cases of cruelty to animals, which he had discovered and had remedied during the past fortnight. ■ After repeated applications ho had succeeded in having a nev water-trough erected in Molesworfh Street. Hβ had also asked for a now trough in lieu of a useless ,one at Knrori tunnel. The inspector also mentioned that he had attended at the wharves during the time the horses were being embarked and disembarked from the various troopships. Subscriptions were received and acknowledged as follow for the past fortnight :—Right Hon W. F. Massey, Hon. W. Fraser, Mr. Justice Hoskiiig, and Union Steam Ship Company Ltd., £1 Is. each; Mr. V. Jensen, 0. Smith, Ltd., and Te Aro House, 10s. 6d. each; Dr. Hardwick Smith, Mrs. T. Young, Mr. S. Philp, Union Clothing Company, National Mutual Life Association, ■ ss. each; Rev. Hugh Beggß, Messrs. J. W. Henderson and G. Petliorick, and Miss JFrasor, 2s. 6d. each; Mrs. A. M. Gow, 25.; total, £7 12s. 6d.
