CAVALRY HORSES

BILL TO ENCOURAGE BREEDING. ' The Remounts Encouragement Bill, which wae introduced in the Ho\ise of Representatives yesterday by the Prime Minister, provides for the encouragement of the breeding.in New Zealand of horses suitable for military purposes. It provides for the payment, subject to certain conditions, of a subsidy not exceeding £100 to the owners of stallions in. respect of the services of such stallions for any seaeon. Stallions in respect of which the subsidy is paid must be passed by not fewer than two Government veterinarians, and must be of a suitable type as far as , possible. Subsidies shall not be paid m respect of more than one stallion in any one locality. In determining the stallions in respect of which subsidies may bo granted, the Minister of Agriculture, if ho thinks fit, may have regard to tho report of any agricultural and pastoral society, with respect to the stallions exhibited at any of its shows. The.total of subsidies payable is limited to £2000 a year.
