BETWEEN WOODVILLE AND TAKAPAU. (Prom Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston N., October 6. Fanned by terrifio gales, bush and log fires are raging between Woodville and Takapau, on cither side of the railway, for miles'. ( Showers of sparks and clouds of smoke are causing consternation among the settlers, Tremendous damage must result to the grass, and owing to the long absence of rain, farmers* will feel tho loss keenly.- Viewed from the train, the scene affords a splendid though weird spectacle, and reminds one of a huge city illuminated. Chimneys are reported to have been hlown down in Dannevirke, which gives an idea of tho velocity of the wind.
