DISTRICT NEWS.

MASTERTON. On Saturday night the police made a raid on an alleged sly grog-shop in the vioinity of Masterton, and seized a largo quantity of liquor. A prosecution will follow.

An interesting lecture was delivered in the High School Assembly Hall on Saturday evening in aid of the War Relief Fund, by Dr. E. W; Brown, F.R.S., of Yale University, U.S.A. There was a good audience, and the lecturer took for his subject "The Story of the Moon." GREYTOWN. Mr. Sam Feast's house at Ahiakaraka and all contents were destroyed by fire at midnight on Sunday night. His family had a very narrow escape in their night attire. The cause of the fire was a spirit lamp exploding. The 'insurances were £430 on dwelling and £150 on furniture and effects in the New Zealond Insurance Office. Mr. W. W. Binknell, a neighbour, had a narrow escape while assisting. The house is to be immediately rebuilt.
