CHEMISTS' CLOSING HOURS
PROSECUTION IN DTJNUDIN,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Dunedin, October 5. Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., gave his'decision to-day in the case in which George Charles Hoffman, shop manager-of the United. Friendly Societies' Dispensary, was charged with failing to. close his shop at 6 p.m. on September 10. Tho new regulation providing for.the closing of■ chemists' and druggists' premises at 6 p.m. on Mondays Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays came into operation on September 10. The defence raised was that the dispensary was riot in the position of other chemists' shops, being primarily not a trading concern, but a place for, the dispensing of prescriptions to members of the society, of whom there are 20.-000. ' .•
The defendant was convioted and fined £2, with £2 9s. costs. Mr. Adams, who appeared for the , defence, mentioned that special legislation would be asked for to deal with the matter.
