WORK AMONG THE GIRLS
Y.W.C.A. 'ANNUAL MEETING. ' The anmial meeting of the Y.W.C.A. was held in Foivlds's Buildings last evening and was. presided over by the Hon. J. G. W. Aitkcn, M.L.C. Tliere was an excellent attendance of members and associated. with the chairman upon the platform were: Mrs. Roitli, president of the association, the Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke), Miss M'Lean, and Miss Birch, general secretary. The chairman, in his opening remarks, congratulated the association upon the very satisfactory position of its finances. As far as ho was acquainted with them, the finances of the Y.M.C.A. could Jiot present such a bal-Auco-sheeb, and in fact, so far ae he knew they wero pretty heavily involved. Tho sister association was indeed to be congratulated. Quo thing 'he was struck by in the annual report was. the big'percentage of income that wa-s paid away in rentals and the problem to be faced was now best to reduce it. They must look to tho day when they could-possess their own premises. Another thing that struck him was the great amount of work that was carried! on by the .association, tie wide field it covered and the great amount of supervision that must lie upon one pair of .shoulders. It seemed to him that members did their best to carry on the work of' this association, and he hoped that, unlike many. men's associations, they did not leave the greater part of it to just a few.
_ Miss M'Lean,. in moving • the adoption of the report, iviiich has already been published, spoke of the healthy 'Condition of each department of the association, and paid a very high tribute to the work carried on by Miss Birch, the general secretary. The work which had been accomplished by Mrs. Reich, acting president, jn .tho place of Mrs. Webster, e who was away in England, was also spoken of most appreciatively.
